After finally painting the exterior of our rental bungalow (aye, we really DIY painted a rental…phone call u.s. crazy!), Matt and I were also excited almost adding some new house bling such as this fun industrial style, nautical lantern sconce. It'south been seven months since we installed information technology and just recently the bulb blew out. Matt had a become at it showtime, and for the life of him, he couldn't figure out how to go the darn thing to open. I figured, since nosotros installed it, we've got to know how to modify the bulb…come on!
So, afterward a few nights of fumbling with keys in the dark, and with Halloween merely days away, it was time to tackle this caput-scratching, nat-flying-in-your-confront-abrasive fiddling task. Saturday forenoon finally offered me the opportunity to do some good ol' deductive reasoning:
Starting time, I unscrewed the easiest role, the height of the lantern which attached the decorative arch…Wrong!
Second, I tried the next obvious screw which attached to the other end of the decorative arch…once more, WRONG!
Side by side, I thought, "Maybe the bottom screws off." And so, I looked to see if it did…NOPE, Doh!
No more screws to unscrew. Darn it! For a separate second, I was actually thinking nosotros might have to supervene upon the whole sconce…but, that'southward ridiculous! My mind started writing a complaint letter of the alphabet to the sconce manufacturer, and and then…wham! Information technology finally came to me. Here'south how I did it:
How to change the light seedling in an exterior lantern sconce:
1. Identify one hand underneath the base of the lantern and carefully, nevertheless firmly, twist/rotate it to the left. "Lefty loosey, righty tighty" – How could have I forgotten this?!?
2. Remove the base beingness careful non to hit the light seedling as you move information technology downwards and off the electrical housing.
3. Wipe out the within and exterior of the glass bulb with a damp towel, and set aside. Eww…spiders galore!
4. Replace light bulb. Ahh.
5. Locate the mounting spiral which is situated upwardly and inside the electric housing.
6. Carefully remount the base of operations fitting upwardly into the screw, so…rotate "righty tighty"!
Ta-da!!!
Tip: When it comes to fixtures that need bulb changing or some sort of upkeep similar changing batteries, keep the original installation instructions in a "Home Improvement" file binder…had nosotros kept these, we might have saved ourselves from this kind of headache! Sheesh.
Holiday Tip:For a fun, festive feel to your front end porch or yard, swap out your white light bulb for a colored i!
